Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst and one of the main “crystal balls” of the news of this brand, wrote this Tuesday (9) one of his predictions: that AirPods may have USB-C charging cases in 2023.
The suggestion also adds an addendum that the second generation AirPods Pro arriving this year would still have the charging case with support for the classic Lightning. These accessories are rumored to work with a rounded, stemless design and with a new H2 processor, lossless audio support, and improved in-device intelligence.
I predict Apple will launch USB-C-capable charging cases for all AirPods models in 2023. However, the charging case of the new AirPods Pro 2 launched in 2H22 may still support Lightning.

In May, Kuo hinted that Apple would launch models of the iPhone 15 with a USB-C port in 2023. He added that the change could improve data transfer and charging speeds, but noted that the exact specification will depend on software support. After all, with its proprietary technologies, Apple has built its own system for more than a decade on basically all fronts.
