Our selection of the top 10 best laptops in 2023
Through this ranking, you will discover the best and most reliable laptops according to your needs. In 1st position, we do not find a pc under windows but the MacBook Pro M1 Pro with its ARM processor which crushes the competition on laptops.
1. Apple MacBook Pro 16
Equipped with the brand new M1 Pro chip, whose performance is close to or even superior to the best Intel and AMD processors and equipped with a 10-core CPU, a 16-core GPU, and 32 GB of RAM, Apple is still hitting hard with this MacBook. The Proo is considered the most powerful ever designed. Intended for extremely advanced professional use, holding the battery for about twenty hours while being, as always, completely silent, there are very few things you will have to deny yourself with such a machine.
Additional good news, the firm has finally come back to these minimalist decisions in terms of connectors and offers a more complete range. This MacBook Pro is therefore equipped with 3 USB-C ports, an SD card reader, an HDMI 2.0 port, and a mini-jack socket.
While the exterior chassis remains fairly identical to its predecessors, the Liquid Retina XDR display has undergone significant changes. The edges have thinned significantly revealing a notch at the level of the webcam. The keyboard shows a uniform black color. The Touch Bar meanwhile, has disappeared, a sign that its presence was ultimately not so essential.
As always, you will have the choice in terms of storage between a 512 GB SSD and a 1 TB one. If you ever need more power than this M1 Pro chip, know that Apple also offers the M1 Max, whose performance is even higher.
- The power
- The silence
- The Notch
2. Apple Macbook Pro 14
Apple unveiled its 14-inch MacBook Pro model, which is more affordable than its 16-inch counterpart but not much less powerful. Its M1 Pro chip offers an 8-core CPU, a 14-core GPU, and 16 GB of RAM. Intended for professional use, everything will be possible with these impressive performances. and its autonomy, which easily reaches 15 hours.
Unlike its classic M1 version, this time we are faced with a real MacBook Pro with a passive cooling system, thanks to a heat sink. On the design side, it stands out from its old version, especially thanks to its screen equipped with an ultra-thin border but with a webcam and a notch for the webcam. Its keyboard is also completely black. Questionable choices for some, but the disappearance of the Touch Bar makes almost everyone agree. It seems
On the connection side, the firm has been much more generous than the old models by offering an SD card reader, an HDMI port, a jack socket, 3 Thunderbolt 4 ports, and a MagSafe 3 socket. Something to delight professionals. As always, Apple gives you the choice in terms of storage between a 512 GB SSD and a 1 TB one.
- The power
- The silence
- The Notch
3. Apple MacBook Air M1
Slightly cheaper than the Pro M1, the Macbook Air M1 offers almost similar specs to its big brother. The Air M1 is slightly less bright with 400 Nits against 500 on the Pro. Its ARM processor embeds 7 GPU graphics cores, whereas the Pro offers 8. Its battery and charger are also less powerful, but still offer 18 hours of battery life. , compared to 8 pm for the Pro version. The speaker/microphone audio system on the Pro M1 is more powerful than on the Air M1 version, it may be less comfortable in video conferencing. The Macbook Air M1 does not have an active cooling system (with a fan). It’s a bit like a fanless, and therefore completely silent, version of the Macbook Pro M1. With a slightly lighter weight and total silence, the Air can tip the balance for fans of calm and mobility.
The differences between these two versions are rather slight and the followers of the Apple brand note that it is possible to increase the storage of the Air M1 to 512 GB without exceeding the price of the Pro M1. Keep in mind that the Macbook Air M1 is a racing beast thanks to the staggering power of the M1 chip. It can edit and export your 4K videos, you can also comfortably play compatible games like Fortnite for example. Its low consumption offers record autonomy, and combined with its featherweight, the Macbook Air M1 is the ideal laptop for nomads. Many people point to the similarity between the two machines and a greater interest in the Macbook Air M1 which is as powerful and less expensive. There is also a version that integrates the 8 graphics cores well.

Updated on: September 15, 2022 8 08 52 09529The Dell XPS 13 9310 features an 11 – generation Intel Core
i7-1165G7 , an Intel Iris Xe graphics chip, 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB SSD storage. -fine. If this laptop does not yet compete with Apple, it is not far.
The only downside is its somewhat disappointing autonomy. It will last about 8 hours with undemanding use. It makes up for it with its ergonomics, its finesse, and its power, which make it an ideal laptop to be used in advanced professional conditions. Its performance will even allow you to play occasionally.
Let’s talk about connectors, it has a micro SD slot, a USB-C port on each side, and a jack. In summary, its power and its truly qualitative design make it one of the best ultrabooks on the market, as long as its autonomy suits you.

- Its autonomy
- Its lack of connectivity
5. Asus Zenbook UX393EA
What can I say except that this Asus Zenbook laptop can leave the competition in the shadows for a while? For a compact Windows solution that’s where it’s worth aiming for. It has everything going for it: powerful, ergonomic, elegant, innovative, compact, light, and very solid.
Designed in metal without exceeding 1.3 kg, it will accompany you everywhere for a long time. I can’t write all its qualities here, just scroll down the list of specifications to be amazed by so many attractions. The Intel Core i7 Quad Core processor (11th generation), 16 GB RAM, an anti-reflective FullHD IPS screen with 100% RGB, and the well above average Iris X graphics card; here’s what to remember. Regarding the SSD, we remain on the standard with 512 GB of SSD.
Practical with its many connectors: USB-A and USB-C, HDMI, and micro SD card. Even if it does not have a Jack port, Bluetooth 5 is there. Finally, its battery offers an autonomy of about 15 hours. It’s one of the top 13-inch laptops.
- Value for money
- medium speakers
6. LG Gram 16
Are you looking for a discreet, ergonomic laptop with good battery life? The LG Gram has all these qualities to offer you. Despite its large 16-inch screen with ultra-thin borders, its weight is only 1.2 kg, it is one of the lightest laptops on the market. It is ideal for your regular trips, especially since it has MIL-STD-810G certification, and its chassis is extremely resistant to shocks.
Its design is very sober and black. It will blend into the decor. Let’s stay outside by going to the side of the connector. There are two USB-A ports, two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI port, a mini-jack socket, and an SD card reader. There’s plenty to do!
Now let’s see what’s inside: an Intel Core i7-11-65G7 processor, an Iris Xe graphics chip, 16 GB of RAM, and a 512 GB SSD. Clearly, we can’t say that it’s a monster of power; it is unfortunately the price to pay to have such lightness. However, that doesn’t mean he’s lagging. Its autonomy will allow you to use it for about 9 hours with video use. It is therefore a computer intended for mobile workers who do not rely on its performance but its ergonomics.
- Its sober design
- Its lightness
- Its finesse
- His screen
- Its autonomy
- Its limited power
- Its storage
- audio sound
7. The HP Envy x360, balance and finesse
Features & Reviews
The flagship of the HP brand, this model has many advantages over its competitors: the quality of a worked design, a Full HD IPS screen, and an impressive lightness of only 1.3 kg. It embeds a Ryzen 5 and 16 GB of ram which is significant for an ultrabook of this type. Note the rapid charging of the device, which is a real asset for this model with a promise of ten hours of autonomy.
Its storage capacity is also within the standards, with 512 GB in SSD. Overall, the hardware part of this ultra-portable is very satisfactory and balanced if you don’t plan to play games or do a few heavy tasks such as video editing (for that you will have to turn to a Ryzen 7 or an Intel i7). This model offers a removable touch screen so you can use your computer as a tablet thanks to its hinge allowing 360° rotation.
Depending on the options selected, you will be able to benefit from a machine that can run games that are not very greedy. For the latest hits, if you plan to have fun with the retina, you will have to go your way or aim for models with an integrated graphics chip such as Radeon Vega (but drastically sacrificing quality in low definition). Overall this pc fulfills its initial role as a laptop and hybrid for everyday and professional use.
- Good finish
- Balanced configuration
- Not suitable for video games
- And too heavy multimedia tasks
8. Huawei MateBook D16
A direct descendant of Honor’s MacBook Pro, Huawei has taken over this model with some modifications. This is a computer designed for classic professional or family use, and occasional travel. It is equipped for this with an AMD Ryzen 5 4600H, 16 GB of RAM, and a 512 GB SSD, knowing that a second storage location is available.
If these performances may seem modest, they are quite good for a computer whose price is below $1,000. We would still have appreciated a more recent processor. It still allows you to occasionally play games that will not be too greedy. On the connection side, there is plenty to do: two classic USB ports, a jack input, two USB-C ports, and an HDMI output.
Its 16-inch screen with ultra-thin borders will give you a contrasting color rendering, its anti-reflective treatment is effective even if it lacks a little brightness. Its autonomy is about 8 hours in video playback, knowing that its fast charge will allow you to recover 2 hours of autonomy in 15 minutes, a very good point.
- Autonomy and fast charging
- Its sober design
- Its finesse
- His second storage location
- His price
- Its limited power
- Its dim screen
9. The HP Pavilion 13
Features & Reviews
Often quoted in the tests on the fact that its keyboard left something to be desired, this is not our feeling on this Ultrabook! When talking about typing comfort, it can vary greatly from person to person. For us, the HP Pavilion 13 offers a good experience in office automation and a variety of connections that will fully benefit creative people with an SD reader, HDMI, USB 3.0, and USB-c. The screen brightness is also excellent if you want to work outdoors. At the configuration level, we remain in the mid-range with better choices than in previous iterations. Thus, we find 16 GB of RAM associated with an 11th-generation Intel Core i7 processor with the IrisXe graphics chip. This chip, normally more powerful than its direct competitor, the Vega from AMD, sits prominently in this model.
The Pavilion 13 will allow you to work efficiently for heavy multimedia tasks even if it offers 512 GB of SSD storage. It offers excellent performance. Even if this model is not intended for games, it will still allow you to play games in Full HD in medium and other references in High such as CS: Go, or PUBG in low. Overall this HP Pavilion is within the expected price points for its performance.
- Many connectors
- good hardware balance
- Good screen brightness
- Correct autonomy but we want more
10. Acer Aspire 5
Features and Opinions
The Acer Aspire 5 A515-56-53CM is a portable PC with an attractive quality/price ratio at first glance and which surpasses its predecessor, in particular with its new CPU. For 750 dollars, it features an
11th generation i5 processor (1135G7, clocked at 2.4Ghz), which is faster than its little brother the 1035G1 (which was a disappointment). Also with its
With 16 GB of RAM, you have here a combination that is more than enough to perform office tasks, the Internet, and image processing. Game level, the graphics part integrated into the processor, Iris Xe, will allow you some nice little video game moments like Forza, GTA, Fifa 22, and even RDR2 with 30 average fps. The processor is also cut out for occasional video editing. Its biggest negative point is the sound which is not terrible. Regarding autonomy, it remains average. Unlike older iterations of the Aspire 5 with a small SSD and mechanical storage, this model features a single
512 GB SSD, which is now becoming a standard. Finally, this model offers a good balance for a student or a person who does not wish to spend too much without sacrificing a certain comfort of use and performance.
- A good processor goes everywhere
- A reasonable price for an average config
- 16 GB of Ram
- 512 GB SSD
- Good autonomy but no more
- A disappointing sound
How to choose the right laptop?
As you will have understood, the choice of the best laptop depends above all on your personal use. The first prices allow you to perform office tasks, such as word processing, and spreadsheets, while high-end PCs are intended more for professional use such as photo editing or video editing. Between these two ranges, we find most of the references of portable, general-purpose, and multimedia computers, with a processor powerful enough to absorb the needs of the user. To help you better, we have also made a selection of the best business laptops of the moment. Now, let’s discover together the components of a laptop to better understand and choose your traveling companion.
This is the heart of the system! A powerful processor (see here what the best processor is for gaming ) will allow you to absorb several tasks. Thus, the more software you use simultaneously, the more your processor will be used. The majority of laptops on the market work with Intel processors, but AMD, its direct competitor, is back in the race with its new Ryzen 4000. But let’s stay on Intel for now with the i3, i5, and i7 chips, the latest being the most powerful with the most hearts. The i3 chip supports small office tasks, while the i7 can simultaneously open Photoshop, an internet browsing page, and other software while maintaining a reasonable execution speed. The latter will be recommended for anyone who wants to do video editing, but beware, this is not the only criterion to take into account.
The hard drive
For neophytes, the hard drive allows you to store data on your laptop. It is now increasingly difficult to obtain laptops with standard hard drives. HDDs, the older mechanical hard drives, take much longer to load and read data. Now it’s the SSD that is on the rise (see our ranking of the best SSD ). This launches your system in less than ten seconds. We can popularize this technology by saying that it is a large internal USB key, so what is called flash memory.
This new storage system is based on flash technology which offers reduced data access times. Ideal for copying files, launching applications, or opening more or less voluminous documents. Despite its limited storage capacity, the SSD is less bulky and fragile than a standard hard drive. This technology becomes less and less expensive over time and brings mechanical hard drives to an inevitable end.
Our advice: to keep enough storage space on your laptop, combine an SSD with a high-capacity hard drive. This will provide you with high throughput while maintaining sufficient storage properties.
Note that changing a hard drive to add an SSD requires specific technical skills (do I have the right connections, is my present hard drive removable, etc.). Do not leave headlong without having taken this item into account.
The graphics card
If you are a “gamer” or a graphic designer, this section should interest you. The main processors in the laptop market come with suitable graphics cards to perform basic media display tasks.
However, some artistic profiles need to make more substantial graphic modifications to carry out video editing, for example, and in this case, are obliged to obtain a laptop with a real dedicated graphics card and its memory. Mid-range laptops often have an integrated graphics chipset that is often part of the processor. Of course, this last option is less powerful but the technologies evolve to give suitable results today in recent games.
Today, Nvidia or AMD graphics cards are often cited to meet the needs of graphic designers. On a laptop, it will therefore be necessary to move towards gaming models or models intended for creative people, and in this case, the price can go beyond 2500 dollars and even 4000 dollars for the most powerful machines. If you just have a desktop PC, you can consult our comparison of the best graphics cards.
This is also called RAM. For office use, 4 GB is enough, but very quickly the needs increase and 8 GB of RAM is quickly needed to avoid having a “lapsing PC”. We can now consider 8 GB of ram as the norm. On the other hand, if you plan to play recent games, do video editing, or do more advanced photo editing, we advise you to opt for at least 16 GB. Find out on another ranking which is the best ram.
Wide connectivity on a laptop can be useful today. Indeed, the variety of media requires resorting to the use of adapters to be able to connect to any media.
Before buying a laptop, check that it has at least one HDMI socket and USB ports. Be careful about your USB ports. The new standard is USB-C but for the moment many peripherals are still USB 3. You then have the choice of taking a USB-C to USB 3 adapter or choosing a computer with both connectors. In any case, the future belongs to USB-C, both on PC and MAC.
Finally, on the connection, an SD card reader is also a good point.
A Wi-Fi network card and sufficient Bluetooth connection are things to consider before buying a laptop.
In general, we recommend the use of a laptop with a 13-inch screen to be able to transport it easily or even 14 inches. This format is slightly larger than a large A4 sheet. If you want a much larger screen, be sure to check out our guide to the best 17-inch laptops.
The quality of the screen is often overlooked, so we advise you to check whether the brightness is sufficient for outdoor use, in this way you will avoid very annoying reflections in daily use.
As for the vertical and horizontal viewing angle, choose a screen with a wide angle for a clear view whatever your position.
If you plan to carry your laptop every day to work, be aware of the weight of your PC.
Laptops between 1 and 2 kg are among the lightest on the market. Carrying a heavy laptop daily can be inconvenient to use. We recommend a weight of fewer than 1.5 kilos, but of course, it depends on your needs regarding your machine.
Very often relegated to the background, the keyboard plays an essential role in the daily use of your machine. A precise and fast keystroke will save you considerable time in the long run.
A laptop with a sufficiently robust battery will save you a lot of time, do not neglect this point. The battery will tend to decrease in quality over time, so choose a sufficiently powerful battery from the start. We, therefore, recommend the use of a large-capacity battery.
If you don’t have a mouse, the touchpad is your companion for navigating your computer. Apple offers the best touchpads on the market on Macbooks. But PC brands like Dell or Asus manage to stand out by offering a good touch interface on their machines to navigate.
According to the current offers from the manufacturers, you will be able to benefit from premium software already installed. This is a criterion that can be interesting depending on your business. Be careful; very often the pre-installed software is a trial version, and you will need to get the full version after 30 days of use.
Tablet or laptop?
With the rise of tablets, one might think that laptops will gradually disappear. In reality, this is not the case. Laptops still have many advantages, and it turns out that the tablet and the computer are now complimentary. Gaming is also tending to develop, and many brands offer computers powerful enough to support the needs of gamers.
What are the best laptop brands?
You can certainly imagine it, but it is always good to remember it: there is a very large number of brands on the market that have launched themselves into the manufacture of portable PCs. But between those who simply profit from entering the market and those who wish to offer quality to their customers, there is a world. When looking for a laptop and reading the comparison visible above, we notice that some brands come back more often than others. Here is a short list for you, not exhaustive in terms of position (the first brand listed is not necessarily the best, and the last is not the worst):
- Asus: As so often, Asus is not just a brand of computers; it offers a whole bunch of high-tech products such as smartphones, for example. However, it has a brand dedicated to “gamer” PCs, called the Republic of Gamers, and is very well known in the gaming community.
- Acer: Like Asus, Acer is a brand that focuses on several different areas, including, for example, motorsports (yes, yes). And like others, it has a branch dedicated to gaming, called Predator, very high-end.
- Dell: Historically, Dell has been a brand focused on professional hardware. But faced with the upsurge in demand for powerful computers for personal use, the brand has launched into the consumer laptop PC market and relies above all on the high quality of its products.
- Huawei: The portable PC is not Huawei’s main market, which focuses above all on telecommunications systems and smartphones. But thanks to their strike force on low prices, Huawei has managed to release computers with excellent quality-to-price ratios.
- HP: Who has never had a PC stamped with HP? The company relies on all areas: the ultra-accessible as well as the beast of power. For example, in the field of powerful laptops, they have a gaming range called Omen.
- For a long time, Lenovo was known only in the Asian market; since then, the brand has been deployed on a large scale in Europe and the United States since its takeover by IBM. Just that. Lenovo is a very reliable brand in the laptop market.
- Razer: Pure gaming is here! Even if they offer more consumer products, Razer’s core business is the gamer’s computer, and who says gaming means power and quality of manufacture?
- Apple: Although unfairly rejected by many gamers, Apple laptops (the Macbook and Macbook Pro) are of very high quality. Dedicated to office use for the most affordable and most demanding professional use for others, their operating system, their optimization, and their exemplary longevity are their very big advantages.

The different types of laptops
The classic laptop
Its name describes it very well, it is the most classic laptop we know. Often a little thicker than the others, a little less well “finished” visually speaking, it generally costs less than 500€ and will allow you to do light and quick tasks, without ever going too far. But it helps out very well for those who only use it as a backup computer.
Visible in the amphitheaters of the faculties for a few years, the ultraportables are nevertheless one of the latest innovations in the world of the portable PC. By definition, small, very thin, and light (generally less than 1.5kg), they are designed to be carried anywhere and anytime, without cluttering. If initially, it was only low-end PCs, the arrival of the Macbook Air has given some pep to the market and some are now much more interesting. It is probably the most popular type today. Find out which is the best ultrabook in this article.
The gaming laptop
Designed to be powerhouses in “small” chassis (compared to a desktop computer), PC gamers must withstand the shock of demanding video games, or even other activities such as video editing, streaming, or modeling, for example. They are not known for being thin and light but often sport a very well-thought-out design and are, above all machines, that last over time. See our comparison of the best cheap gaming laptops.
The 2-in-1 hybrid PC
the system. This category of laptops is about to replace the classic laptop. They are generally more powerful than the latter while using a lighter operating system, allowing more possibilities for each task. Their main characteristic is that they are halfway between a tablet and a laptop since they are designed to be used with a keyboard, which detaches to switch to tablet mode when necessary. It is convenient for the family, or even for working on the go.
Both ultra-portable and sometimes hybrid and very accessible, Chromebooks are the perfect laptops for light use. Their operating system, called Chrome OS, does not allow installing software like on Windows or macOS, but its compatibility with Android applications and the Google suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.), makes them perfect for note-taking, web writing, and even web development. Their two biggest strong points remain their often very long-lasting battery and the ultra-fast ignition of a few short seconds. See our Chromebook review.
